"Why is my Clutch Slipping". When a customer comes to us with a clutch complaint, as in…it won’t shift or it slips on hills, I always try to ask a few simple questions to quickly narrow it down. There are only a few symptoms that a clutch will exhibit, and when I have the car in front of me, it will only take a few minutes to diagnose the problem. Some shops charge for this…but we don’t. I would rather try to educate you as to what’s happening with your vehicle right then and there.
More often than not, the clutch has simply worn out and it slips. Replacing the main clutch parts and resurfacing the flywheel is the correct repair. The main parts consist of the Pressure Plate, the Clutch Disc, the Release bearing or Throw Out Bearing, the Pilot Bearing and the Flywheel.
When the car becomes hard to shift…it won’t go into gear or the clutch pedal falls to the floor, it’s usually the Clutch Hydraulics. The Clutch Master Cylinder and the Clutch Slave Cylinder are the most culprits. Replacing the master and slave and bleeding the system takes car of the problem.
So if your Honda Accord decides not to shift, or your Toyota Camry won’t accelerate on the freeway, give us a call and we’ll get it repaired for you as soon as we can.
